ConvertMySearch

Malware creators have developed ConvertMySearch to redirect unsuspecting Internet users to unknown websites using a fake search engine. As ConvertMySearch usually sneaks into computers unnoticed, it has been classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP). A common method of distribution for such PUPs is by bundling them within the installers of popular freeware. Compromised Internet pages and banners also can be a source of the infection.

Users can notice the presence of ConvertMySearch on their machines easily. When this PUP enters a computer, it installs a browser extension with the same name. Then, it changes the browser’s default search engine and homepage to feed.convertmysearch.com. As a consequence, users are forced to visit this unsafe page each time they launch their browser, and all their search queries are redirected through ConvertMySearch’s fake search engine to potentially harmful third-party websites. Most probably, this is done to generate artificial traffic and advertising revenues for the attackers.

In fact, this unsafe tool cannot generate any accurate search results; therefore, in the end, ConvertMySearch displays result pages from search.yahoo.com. However, even among the legit Yahoo search results, there could be corrupted links and banners. You should uninstall this browser hijacker as soon as detected, for it may cause you severe security and privacy issues.
