ConvertItSearch

ConverItSearch is a typical browser hijacker application dedicated to promoting and generating traffic towards a fake search engine. All other features that it may boast having could be considered as barely functional. In most cases, users do not install applications such as these willingly. Instead, the browser hijackers propagate through dubious distribution methods where they hid their installation inside the installer of another more popular program. Some may even pose as an update for popular free software. As a result, most cybersecurity experts categorize these applications as Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs).

No matter how ConvertItSearch managed to install itself onto the user's device, it will proceed to take over certain browser settings. The homepage, new page tab, and the default search engine will be set to open convertitsearch.com. On its own, this search engine cannot produce any results to the users' search queries, which is why it is considered a fake engine. The actual list of relevant search results relies on a legitimate engine - search.yahoo.com, in this case.

Having a browser hijacker such as ConvertItSearch present on a device is not advisable. Apart from the fact that the browser settings cannot be modified while the application is still installed, users also have to factor in the possibility of their browsing data, as well as certain system details being tracked and collected.
