ByWill.net
ByWill.net is a malicious website that pretends to be a legitimate search engine and news aggregator. Clearly, the criminals behind ByWill.net have tried to pay attention to its design and layout. Its header image is designed to resemble a newspaper headline. Its layout is neat, in vertical rows containing news stories and a well-placed search box in the top-center of the page. It is a pity that similar care was not taken in order to ensure that ByWill.net contains legitimate content, which ByWill.net could then use to attract visitors. ByWill.net's fake search engine feature will do nothing more than vomit back a string of advertisements for scam websites and pages containing malicious content. Its so-called news stories are nothing more than headlines scraped from legitimate sources that have been butchered in order to give ByWill.net an appearance of legitimacy. In short, everything about this website is designed only to give a good first impression while it actually delivers nothing that could be useful or attractive. However, as you will see in the next section, ByWill.net does not need to provide a useful content in order to attract visitors. It uses other means to snare its victims and force them to visit this useless fake search engine.
How ByWill.net Boosts Its Web Traffic Artificially
Websites like ByWill.net do not rely on providing quality content in order to attract visitors. Rather, they rely on malware in order to ensure that they can continue to profit from advertising and pay-per-click schemes. Fake search engines are a common online scam, usually associated with dangerous browser-hijacking Trojans. Browser hijackers are specifically designed to take over a victim's computer system in order to force the victim's Internet browser to visit specific websites repeatedly. In this way, ByWill.net generates traffic and advertising revenue – its visitors have no choice but to visit ByWill.net repeatedly. If you find that your Internet browser is forcing you to visit ByWill.net against your will, this is a definite sign of a dangerous browser hijacker infection. To remedy this problem, ESG security researchers strongly recommend using a legitimate anti-malware application to scan your hard drives. Because modern malware almost never travels alone, there is a high chance that the browser hijacker causing the ByWill.net redirects is accompanied by other malware infections. ByWill.net in particular has also been associated with a number of adware and spyware infections.
