The Buscaid Virus is a Web browser hijacker, a Trojan infection designed to take control of the victim's Web browser in order to force it to visit the Buscaid website repeatedly. This website is a search engine that is used to carry out a common type of online scam. If your Web browser is forcing you to visit this website against your will or if it is displaying abnormal behavior associated with this website (such as showing pop-up Windows or using Buscaid as the default search engine or home page) then it is highly likely that your computer has become infected with the Buscaid Virus.

The Buscaid Virus is Not Actually a Virus

Although many computer users tend to use the word 'virus' to refer to many types of malware without making a distinction between different kinds, the Buscaid Virus is not an actual computer virus. Viruses are malware infections designed to corrupt files and to spread on their own, severely infecting a computer. The Buscaid Virus is rather a potentially unwanted program, with many of the characteristics of a Trojan infection. The Buscaid Virus will normally present itself in the form of a Web browser toolbar that is installed after downloading and installing a freeware application. Fortunately, this means that the so-called Buscaid Virus is significantly simpler to remove than actual, severe computer virus infections.

The Buscaid Virus is designed to increase the traffic to the Buscaid website. To do this, the Buscaid Virus causes Web browser redirects, meaning that the Buscaid Virus forces its victims' Web browsers to visit this website repeatedly. The Buscaid Virus also changes the infected computer's settings so that this website will become the victim's homepage and default search engine. The Buscaid Virus has also been linked to pop-up windows, fake error messages and decreased system performance.

If your computer is infected with the Buscaid Virus, ESG security researchers recommend uninstalling any Web browser toolbars that may have been installed recently. It is also recommended the use of a verified anti-malware program to run a full scan of the infected computer in order to ensure that the Buscaid Virus has not exposed the victim to other PC threats. It will usually also be necessary to revert the changes made manually to the infected computer's settings.
