Browser-Security Browser Hijacker

Browser-Security is a browser hijacker that makes changes to browser settings to promote the browser-security.xyz fake search engine. It modifies the homepage, default search engine, and new tab/window URLs to the browser-security.xyz website, so when users open a new tab or enter a search query into the URL bar, it redirects them to this page. This illegitimate search engine usually redirects users to genuine ones like Google, but this can depend on factors like the users' geolocation.

Browser-Security also uses persistence-ensuring techniques to remain installed on users' machines. Additionally, it collects private data, such as visited URLs, viewed pages, search queries, usernames/passwords, personally identifiable details, and finance-related information, which can be monetized by selling it to third parties (potentially to cyber criminals).

It is imperative to be careful when downloading software from dubious sources, as this can lead to the installation of browser hijackers. Such threatening programs are often spread through misleading Web pages, redirects caused by misspelled URLs, intrusive advertisements, and adware. Additionally, they may be bundled with regular program installers without the user's knowledge.

To avoid such unwanted installations, we recommend researching the software before downloading it and only using official and verified channels. When installing new software, users should pay attention to the terms and opt-out of any additional applications or extensions. Furthermore, they should be wary of fake content that appears legitimate but leads to questionable sites.
