BKDR_MECIV.LIN
BKDR_MECIV.LIN is a backdoor Trojan infection which is included in a spam campaign that affects Tibetan activists. The fake email involves the story of the NBA star Jeremy Lin, whose excellent play for the New York Knicks has drawn worldwide attention. A short while ago he made the front cover of Time magazine with the short headline 'Linsanity'. BKDR_MECIV.LIN is downloaded and installed on the infected PC system by another Trojan called TROJ_ARTIEF.LIN, which is a malicious document named 'The incredible story of Jeremy Lin the NBA new superstar.doc' incorporated into a bogus email. TROJ_ARTIEF.LIN exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Office (RTF Stack Buffer Overflow Vulnerability (CVE-2010-3333)) for installing BKDR_MECIV.LIN on the infected computer user's machine. BKDR_MECIV.LIN is specifically generated to permit hackers obtain remote access and control over the compromised PC system. BKDR_MECIV.LIN is either installed without intention by gullible PC users or purposely by hackers. BKDR_MECIV.LIN modifies system settings to automatically launch every time you boot up your computer. Remove BKDR_MECIV.LIN in order to protect your PC from harm.
