By GoldSparrow in Backdoors

BKDR_KULUOZ.SMAL is a backdoor Trojan that propagates via a malware attack connected with the South Korean ferry incident. BKDR_KULUOZ.SMAL circulates via spam email messages linked to a South Korean ferry sank. However, the ferry incident is not mentioned in the body of the email message, but in the footer. The harmful email messages include the subject line 'Notice of appearance in court' and they announce victimized recipients that they must attend a hearing at a courthouse. The malware infection that is added to the infected emails is found as BKDR_KULUOZ.SMAL. When BKDR_KULUOZ.SMAL corrupts a PC, it can be used by cybercrooks to accomplish a variety of actions such as drop other malware infections such as bogus anti-virus applications and the ZeroAccess rootkit Trojan.
