Backdoor:Win32/IRCbot.GX is a backdoor Trojan that is distributed via removable drives. Backdoor:Win32/IRCbot.GX enables cybercriminals to obtain remote access and control over a compromised PC via IRC. Backdoor:Win32/IRCbot.GX records keystrokes and steals confidential information from victims. While being installed, Backdoor:Win32/IRCbot.GX copies itself to the certain locations of the targeted machine. Backdoor:Win32/IRCbot.GX drops and runs malevolent files and makes modifications to the to the system security settings Windows Registry by adding registry entries. Backdoor:Win32/IRCbot.GX injects a malevolent code into several genuine running processes that involve notepad.exe, charmap.exe and explorer.exe in order to evade detection and removal of security tools. Backdoor:Win32/IRCbot.GX may also set an autorun.inf file in the root directory of the corrupted drive, which includes execution instructions for the OS, so that when the removable drive is accessed from another computer system, which supports the Autorun feature, Backdoor:Win32/IRCbot.GX is initiated automatically.
