The SmartBrowser browser extension may be promoted to users that rely on the Google search aggregator to find most of the information they require online. The SmartBrowser extension is promoted as a search optimizer that can make ‘smart suggestions‘ based on your behavior on the Internet and your keyword history on services like Google, Bing and Yahoo. Students, online researchers, teachers, and SEO experts may find the SmartBrowser extension very useful. However, the SmartBrowser extensions fall into the category of adware and is likely to decrease your computer performance while bombarding your screen with advertisements. Security experts note that the SmartBrowser adware is similar to Shopping Suggestions and FoodBuzz, may peruse the Meta tags of the pages you browse and record your keyboard input on search fields to facilitate behavioral marketing. The SmartBrowser adware may install its files in the hidden AppData folder and run as a portable program.
Its analysis suggests that the main executable of the SmartBrowser adware may be linked to your default Internet client with a Registry key. The SmartBrowser adware may initiate its process as a separate thread under the svchost.exe host process by Windows and hinder detection by run-time scanners. Ironically, the ads by SmartBrowser may be quite obvious and appear as banners, floating ad-boxes, and pop-up windows that welcome users to spend thousands of dollars on items from shady online stores. The SmartBrowser adware may load specially crafted user-reviews on your new tab page to encourage you to buy expensive electronics, and you should be careful not to fall for its tricks. The SmartBrowser adware may be listed on the 'Programs and Features' panel but may lack a functional uninstaller. A trusted anti-malware utility can scan for the binary associated with SmartBrowser and delete the files that may be used to load insecure content into your browser.
