There have been countless computer users complaining that their Web browser will suddenly fill up Web pages with advertisements containing the message 'Ads by Info'. This may occur when computer users use a common search engine, such as Google or Bing. The top search results on the results page may be 'Ads by Info,' sponsored results that may be unrelated to the computer user's search. If a Web browser is displaying 'Ads by Info,' this means that there is a Potentially Unwanted Program installed. PUPs that are considered adware because of their advertising goals may take the form of Web browser add-ons, extensions or plug-ins, and are designed to expose computer users to advertisements repeatedly against their will. PUPs associated with 'Ads by Info' may be installed automatically, sneaking them into the targeted computer by bundling them along with a free software download. This is a well-used way of disseminating PUPs; computer users install a new program and realize that along with a new program, PUPs displaying annoying advertisements (such as 'Ads by Info') appear seemingly out of nowhere.
Ads by Info is Associated with PUPs
PC security analysts advise PC users to remove all PUPs associated with 'Ads by Info' from their computer. Although these advertisements seem harmless, their effects on a computer may not be worth letting them remain. PUPs linked with 'Ads by Info' have been associated with performance problems and may also expose computer user's data, such as their Web browser history and settings. Most importantly, repeated pop-ups and redirects linked to 'Ads by Info' may make the affected Web browser nearly impossible to use, becoming extremely detrimental to the user experience. Technically, PUPs associated with 'Ads by Info' are not considered threatening. However, PC security researchers recommend their immediate removal.
There are numerous symptoms and issues that may be linked to 'Ads by Info.' These include the following:
- Affected computers may run slowly, freeze or crash frequently. This may occur because PUPs associated with 'Ads by Info' may make changes to the affected computer's settings and run in the background, consuming system resources and conflicting with other software.
- PUPs linked to 'Ads by Info' may modify your Web browser's settings such as changing their default search engine and homepage.
- PUPs associated with 'Ads by Info' may track information about your Web browser settings, history and browsing habits. This information may then be sold to third parties that may result in unsolicited marketing telephone calls, spam email, junk mail and other problems.
What to do to Stop 'Ads by Info'
If 'Ads by Info' are appearing on your Web browser, this means that there is a PUP present on your computer. You can stop 'Ads by Info' from interfering with your online experience by removing the PUP completely. To do this, PC security analysts strongly advise the following steps:
- Find the PUP related to 'Ads by Info' and uninstall it using the Windows Control Panel.
- Once the PUP has been removed, also ensure that all Registry Entries and other modifications linked to the PUP have also been removed. These types of PUPs may make changes to your computer's settings to ensure that they run as soon as you start up the affected computer.
- Open your Web browser and undo any modifications made to the settings of your Web browser. For example, restore your search engine and homepage to their default.
- Use a reliable security application to scan your computer thoroughly. This step is important because other PUPs or even more threatening components may be left over after dealing with 'Ads by Info.' For example, PUPs associated with 'Ads by Info' may have been installed by a threat.
