The Decoder Ransomware is an encryption ransomware, or technically a Trojan horse, that may be related to the Globe family of ransomware Trojans, which have been active at least since 2016. It's actions are similar to most common ransomware threats where it will encrypt files on an infected system and then make aggressive demands to the user to pay a ransom fee to restore the encrypted files. Searchencrypt is also offered as a Chrome extension that can be downloaded from both the official website and the Chrome web store. Despite the large number of users that the Chrome store widget reports, Searchencrypt's extension is largely a browser hijacker, which at least doesn't try to hide its nature and mode of operation.
