SpySheriff és una aplicació anti-spyware fraudulenta dissenyada per pirates informàtics per obtenir beneficis d'usuaris d'ordinadors creïbles. Un troià pot introduir SpySheriff a l'ordinador mitjançant esquerdes de seguretat del navegador o es pot descarregar directament des de www.spysheriff.com. SpySheriff té la capacitat de generar missatges d'advertència falsos que apareixen a la barra de tasques. Aquests missatges falsos es produeixen després d'un "escaneig" que SpySheriff emula per augmentar la seva credibilitat. Després que SpySheriff "detecti" paràsits al vostre ordinador, us oferirà contínuament la compra de la versió completa del programa, per tal d'eliminar les amenaces inexistents.
