Up to 300 Million Cyber Attacks on NSA Data Centers Take Place Each Day

nsa data center attacks 300 million times a dayFor many reasons, the U.S. government isn't everyone's friend when it comes to privacy. The United States National Security Agency, or what most simply call the NSA, is constantly under attack from cybercrooks. You may ask, how often do cyber-attacks occur on the NSA? Great question, and also one that has an answer that may blow your mind.

As it turns out, Utah officials are saying that the number of cyber-attacks against local state organizations has increased to unprecedented numbers. In the past six years, cyber-attacks have steadily climbed and this year they have peaked to nearly 300 million attacks on the NSA.

Back in 2010 attacks on the NSA were minuscule, ranging between 25,000 to 80,000 each day. Considering how there are nearly 300 million attacks per day nowadays, we can easily conclude that times have indeed changed and the defenses of the NSA must be iron clad to defend off so many attacks.

Thankfully, the NSA has taken steps to have the proper defenses in place. However, certain NSA data centers, mainly the newest of them all in Bluffdale, Utah, is one of the very reasons for the rise in attacks. Just two years ago, the PRISM program reached its peak, at the same time whistle blower Edward Snowden revealed the presence of the data center. Since that time, attacks have constantly been on the rise. You can think of it as a new target being exposed for cybercrooks to take aim.

Cybercrooks are always on the look for the next opportunity to gather sensitive data. The NSA, since its existence, has always been a target for attacks. Today, in knowing the sensitivity of data hoarded and collected by the NSA, cybercrooks are like vultures waiting for anything they can attack and consume but later expose to the highest bidder.

Not only has Edward Snowden been one of the initiators for cyber-attacks on the NSA, but on a local basis, certain entities are found to be attacked more aggressively as a result of how recent government privacy issues have been handled. While Edward Snowden still faces US charges under the Espionage Act, which could land him in prison for up to 30 years, he has recently claimed he would be willing to return to the US if the government can guarantee a fair trial. However, with Snowden back in the US on trial, a new can of virtual worms could be opened to uncover additional personal effects about the NSA. Furthermore, an Edward Snowden trial in the US may further ramp up attacks on the NSA, which could paramount the current 300 million attacks-a-day number. As such a rate, we wonder what is the magical number of attacks each day that finally compromises NSA data centers and relinquishes classified data?
