Desktop Defender 2010 is a rogue anti-spyware that comes from the same group of hackers that made the fake security programs known as UnVirex and Contraviro. Desktop Defender 2010 uses devious methods to extort money from computer users. This process is usually carried out by Desktop Defender 2010 displaying fake popup messages and conducting system scans that return falsified parasite results.

Desktop Defender 2010 can be installed without actions from the computer user. All actions performed by Desktop Defender 2010 are done in an effort to get computer users to purchase the full version of Desktop Defender 2010. Desktop Defender 2010 is not able to detect or remove legitimate security threats.
