Uzmite.me

Users typically do not visit pages like Uzmite.me intentionally; instead, they get redirected to it by a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) located on their computers. When a PUA opens the Uzmite.me page, it usually displays a series of error messages, loads several other questionable websites in new tabs or new browser windows. These websites offer no meaningful content but only use some well-known click-bait technique to trick users into subscribing to browser notifications. This is achieved by showing a misleading message to the user claiming he needs to click on an 'Allow' button to view the website's content. Uzmite.me, in particular, pretends to conduct a CAPTCHA-test:

'Uzmite.me wants to Show notifications
Click Allow to confirm that you are not a robot!'

PUAs spread through infected banners or advertisements and a method called 'bundling' – malware creators bundle such undesired and potentially harmful tools within the installation package of popular freeware. As a result, these programs get installed on a computer without the user's knowledge and consent. Among PUPs' primary functionalities is to deliver promotional content in the form of pop-up messages, bogus deals and offers or fake security alerts. Also, many of them send traffic to possibly corrupted websites, like Uzmite.me. On top of that, some PUPs harvest user data, which malware actors sell to third parties, resulting in serious privacy issues for the victims of these fraudulent tactics. PUPs can be efficiently removed through an automated malware removal tool.
