How to Uninstall Unity

Unity is a widely-used cross-platform game engine. Users can download the free real-time engine and begin building their dream project in just a few clicks. Removing Unity after you no longer need it can also be achieved rather easily by following the instruction below.

Mac users who no longer have a need for the Unity engine can begin its removal by opening Finder from the Dock and accessing their Applications folder. Locate the Unity app, right-click it, and choose 'Move to Trash.' Empty the Trash to delete the app. In most cases, however, this is not the end of the process as some residual files could still be present. Users will have to deal with them manually.

Go to Finder once again but this time select the 'Go' menu and then 'Go to Folder' from the available options. In the window that appears type ~/Library and press 'Go.' When the Library folder opens, navigate through the list, find the folder named 'Unity' and move it to the Trash. Then go to the Caches folder and look for any Unity-related folders. Move them to the Trash as well. Finally, access the 'Saved Applications' folder. Here, look for a folder named 'com.unity3d.UnityEditor5.x.savedState' and move it to the Trash. All that is left is to empty the Trash.

Windows users can start the removal process of Unity by taking advantage of the Unity Hub. Through it, users can choose to uninstall individual Unity versions. Open the Start menu and search for 'Unity Hub.' Click on it. Once the Unity Hub has started, go to the 'Installs' tab where all of the installed Unity versions should be listed. Pick the specific ones you want to remove, or all of them, and then click on the Menu button (three horizontal dots). From the available options, choose 'Uninstall.' Follow the displayed instructions until the end of the uninstallation process.

All that is left now is to remove the Unity Hub itself. On Windows 10, users can press the Windows button + I on their keyboard. This will open the Settings menu. Go to 'Apps,' and then 'Apps and Features.' Scroll through the list or type 'Unity Hub' in the search field. Right-click the entry and choose 'Uninstall.' Follow the displayed instruction until the end of the uninstallation process.
