How To Fix the Twitch Black Screen Issue

In the very beginning, Twitch had a different name and was a platform dedicated to streaming video games solely. The platform saw a meteoric rise in viewership and streamers and not long after, it was bought by the megacorporation Amazon. While streaming video games has remained the major focus of Twitch, the content available on the site has diversified significantly and includes a multitude of different categories. However, one issue encountered by Twitch viewers commonly is seeing a black screen instead of the chosen stream. To fix the problem, try the solutions suggest below. 

Disable Hardware Acceleration

If the black screen appears in Google Chrome, then try to turn the hardware acceleration off and see if it helps. 

  1. Open Google Chrome and open its Menu by clicking on the three-dots icon in the upper right corner of the window. 
  2. From the available options, select 'Settings.'
  3. Click on 'Advanced.'
  4. Scroll down to the bottom, locate the 'Use hardware acceleration when available' option, and turn it off. 
  5. Click on the 'Relaunch' button and check if Twitch is working properly now. 

Check if TLS (Transport Layer Security) is Enabled

While it may be a bit of a long shot, check if TLS hasn't been disabled by accident.

  1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog window.
  2. Type control panel and click 'OK.'
  3. Open 'Network and Internet.
  4. Select 'Internet Options.'
  5. Go to the 'Advanced' tab and tick all of the TLS options. Afterward, click 'Apply' and then 'OK' to confirm the changes. 

Reset the Network Configuration

If nothing else works, you may try to reset the Network Configuration. 

  1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog window.
  2. Type cmd and then press Shift+Ctrl+Enter on your keyboard simultaneously. This should open an elevated Command prompt window.
  3. In the CMD window, type the ipconfig /flushdns command and press Enter.
  4. Next, type ipconfig /renew and press Enter again.
  5. Finally, restart your PC for the changes to take effect.
