Please do not count on Windows Repair to identify or fix problems with your PC. Although Windows Repair pretends to be a system optimization tool, Windows Repair is nothing more than malware. In order to get you to panic and pay for a nonexistent program, Windows Repair will try to scare you into thinking that there are serious problems with your computer that only Windows Repair can fix.

What Happens During a Windows Repair Infection?

A Windows Repair infection begins with the download of a Trojan, which is often hidden in a malicious advertisement or pop-up that you may come across online, and which triggers a download of the Trojan simply because you have clicked on the advertisement window. These advertisements may offer a disk defragmentation service or a "free scan" of your computer. On the other hand, the Trojan that supports Windows Repair may be disguised as a video codec or program update, available for download on a sketchy or disreputable website, or Windows Repair may be bundled with a freeware download. Regardless of how the Trojan finds its way onto your PC, once it is downloaded, the Trojan will set up all of the files necessary to run Windows Repair and to scam you out of your money.

Windows Repair will load a fake scanner interface every time Windows starts. This interface features a pirated Windows logo that looks like it's made out of puzzle pieces, as well as using Windows styling and fonts – but don't let any of that fool you, because Windows Repair is not affiliated with Microsoft. When the interface loads, Windows Repair will play a progress animation and tell you that Windows Repair is running a scan of your computer. These phony scans always turn up results, and Windows Repair will make it seem as though you can fix these "errors" by pressing a button that says "Fix Now," but then Windows Repair will tell you that in order for Windows Repair to fix the errors it claims to have found, you must first purchase a license for Windows Repair's software. Of course, because Windows Repair is fake, its licenses are fake, and purchasing one would be a waste of your money.

Windows Repair will also cause pop-up error messages to appear, and these error messages will always say that something is wrong with your hard drive or some other internal system component. For example, some of the error messages will say that your hard drive could not be located, or that it has bad sectors, or that the internal temperature of your computer is high enough to cause serious damage. Windows Repair lacks the ability to detect any of these problems, so you should not believe it when Windows Repair tells you that it has found them. Furthermore, Windows Repair expects you to believe that you could somehow cool down your PC's components by defragmenting your hard drive, which is ridiculous. These messages are just a way for Windows Repair to try to scare you into a panic, and to remind you to go online and get one of Windows Repair's bogus licenses.

In order to keep you from removing Windows Repair's worthless software, Windows Repair will prevent all other programs from opening, and every time you try to use another program, Windows Repair will tell you that the program can't run because of some kind of hard drive error. This means that you can't use Task Manager to kill Windows Repair's processes, and you can't remove Windows Repair using any Windows utility or program. Also, when you try to go online, Windows Repair will redirect you to Windows Repair's own fake website, so that you can't go looking for information or help in removing the malware. Overall, Windows Repair severely disables every computer that Windows Repair infects. Paying the money that Windows Repair's creators demand will not change this, for you or anyone else being attacked by this fake defragmentation program.

Malware Related to Windows Repair

Windows Repair is essentially a clone or a mutation of existing fake defragmentation software from the FakeSysDef family. Other members of Windows Repair's family, which use the same interfaces and error messages, and which cause the same set of symptoms, include System Defragmenter, Ultra Defragger, HDD Control, Win HDD, Win Defrag, Win Defragmenter, Disk Doctor, Hard Drive Diagnostic, HDD Diagnostic, HDD Plus, HDD Repair, HDD Rescue, Smart HDD, Defragmenter, HDD Tools, Disk Repair, Windows Optimization Center, Scanner, HDD Low, Hdd Fix.

No matter what this malware is called, Windows Repair is part of a scam, and it has absolutely no real, worthwhile function to offer.

Thanks. Spyhunter 4 helped me a bunch with this program but unfortunately it seems most of my programs pictures and documents have been erased by this malware. I am going to try to do a system restore but I doubt that would fix it but at least my computer works and now I don't have to worry anymore about malicious programs.
