Personal Security or PersonalSecurity, is a rogue security application out to trick users out of their money. Personal Security is a clone of the fake security tool, Cyber Security. Personal Security infects users’ systems with the help of a Trojan or malicious advertisements on the internet. Once Personal Security has infiltrated a system it will perform a fake system scan and report several malware infections. All reports, virus alerts or pop-ups displayed by Personal Security are fabricated and should not be trusted. Do not by any means purchase Personal Security; it is a useless program that should be removed immediately after detection.

Open Task Manager –> Processes, find psecurity and end the process.
Open Windows explorer –> C drive, Program Files –> Delete the Personal Security Folder.
Start –> Run, type msconfig –> Startup –> Untick Personal security –> exit without restart. (when you next turn your PC on, a message will appear advising a change ha been made to program list that starts up. Tick not to show the message again and continue as normal)
Start — > Control Panel –> Add/Remove programs, remove the Personal Security from the list.

  4. Michael Ditkowsky Michael Ditkowsky Says:

The program doesn’t let you download any software. We sent a message to the company that created Personal Security on the “customer service” link that we would track them down and sue them for attacking our kids computer. They emailed this solution and it worked in less than one minute. We still downloaded and ran an antispyware program afterwards to make sure nothing remained. This was their response which worked:

    “Dear customer,

Thank you for contacting Customer Support Center.
Please follow my instructions to uninstall the program:
Paste the following string to Windows Explorer address bar and execute it (Press Enter key):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\PSecurityUninstall\Uninstall

    or

    1. Open My computer, choose Disk C;
    2. Find Program Files=>Common Files=>PSecurityUninstall=>Uninstall
    3. Run the file Uninstall.lnk

After that our product will be removed.Sometimes it takes more than one try to remove the product due to temporary technical difficulties, so please try to do it several times.
If you have any questions concerning our software, please contact our Customer Support Service.

    With best wishes,

    Customer Support Team

  5. CagedTech CagedTech Says:

Michael: I’m surprised you got a reply from them. Not only do you have to delete Personal Security but it’s likely that you have to delete the malware that may have installed Personal Security in the first place. Malware can hide dormant until it’s triggered either by a certain time or date. So them saying: “Sometimes it takes more than one try to remove the product due to temporary technical difficulties, so please try to do it several times.”, it’s because you can expect for the program to reappear.

Also, malware such as trojans and rootkits can hide on the PC and remain undetected by some anti-spyware programs. Read this article on trojan rootkits that block or hide from security programs: http://www.enigmasoftware.com/trojan-rootkit-gen-variants-block-security-applications/.

You should double check your PC and scan your PC with SpyHunter to check for any traces of malware.

  7. Cipriano Vidales Cipriano Vidales Says:

Thank you Michael D. I was able to remove Personal Security, but it was a lil to easy, it only took a sec. or two I think Caged Tech might have a point on it coming back. It probably didn’t remove it maybe it just put it in a dormant state. But any how thank you.

  8. Chris Chris Says:

I caught it as it was attempting to install on my computer. The file that was trying to “run” was setup_40s4[1].exe and was found in the Temporary Internet Files folder. I’m sure that the part of the name after the “setup_” is random garbage. I was able to delete that file eventually but I got some screen captures of the dialog boxes and warnings as it was trying to get on my computer. Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Get it from a clean computer, move it to the infected computer with a thumb drive and run it. It generally works. You may need to start your computer in safe mode (press F8 as you boot up from off). Good Luck!

  9. Val Val Says:

The only way I’ve been able to remove the Personal Security Virus is by booting up in safe mode and selecting a RESTORE point 2 or 3 months ago and then deleting everything in TEMP folder and IE history!

  10. Lee Lee Says:

Thank you very much. I didn’t get a reply from “Personal Security”. It was removed on the 1st try.

    John

  17. Lin Lin Says:

My poor OAP mother has just been scammed by this. She paid her money and it seems that the credit card company can’t help her get her money back. I’m trying to sort it out for her but it’s not looking good. I’m just looking at an email she forwarded to me that they sent. It includes an apology, a link to download the software and an activation code!! I won’t put the links up just incase someone accidently follows them.

I did do a website once which petitioned against a ticket company called getmetickets.net. They ripped people off by selling tickets they didn’t have. They were on watchdog etc. The site brought it to the full attention of the Trading Standards Agency in the UK and the directors were prosecuted, the company put into receivership.

  18. john john Says:

I got the personal sercurity virus it got removed from the computer but when i open up internet explorer open a web page the personal security red flag blocks and redirects me back to their web site. Do you have answers on how to fix this? if so please email me. Thank you Please help if can.

  19. Jennifer Jennifer Says:

I recently purchased your program SpyHunter and so far have been successful with removing personal security. However, I was one of the unfortunate individuals dumb enough to actually pay money for personal security. Now, I have no idea how to get that money back. What can I do? I have already emailed the address the company gave me and have also called their 800 number. No luck with that.

  20. Gary Gary Says:

    Thanks Michael Ditkowsky it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Michelle Michelle Says:

    Michael D,
Thanks for the instructions on how to remove this phony program. This bug was installed on our laptop while viewing the pictures of Serena Williams after winning the Australian Open over the weekend. We were about to take it into a computer shop and pay up to $150 to get this trash removed. Thanks to you I was able to remove this bug, run a comprehensive scan of the system and locate all other items that were left behind by this program. No way were we going to pay a registration fee to remove a program we didn’t ask for.

    Thanks Again :-)
