The NSBlock software by Domport GmbH & Co. KG that you can find at www.nsblock.net is promoted as a roundhouse solution when it comes to protection against modern-day cyber threats such as viruses, Trojans, spyware and worms. The installer for NSBlock comes as an executable that is under 2 MB in size, which should incite doubts in users regarding the NSBlock's ability to protect your computer. NSBlock has a version in German only, and its services are provided for free. There are leading AV vendors who provide limited editions of their products for free but Domport GmbH & Co. KG is not such a company. The NSBlock security solution is said to provide complete protection to users for free, but you should ask yourself how is that possible when the desktop app weighs as little as 2 MB.
Domport GmbH & Co. KG does not provide any details on its technology and users asked cyber security researchers to look into how NSBlock is supposed to protect their online banking session, downloads and Web surfing. It turns out that NSBlock does not include a file scanner, an anti-virus engine, real-time protection shield, email scanner and options like the update on demand and scan of specific directories. NSBlock does not offer tools that are present in other security solutions because it is a DNS service that relies on constant Internet connection and Web filters. NSBlock is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that claims to be an adequate system shield against contemporary cyber threats but fails to deliver proper protection. NSBlock may be able to limit the exposure to compromised pages and phishing portals, but it lacks the ability to stop corrupted files from loading into your memory.
