Windows PC Restarts After Selecting Shutdown

Under certain circumstances, users may notice that their Windows computers restart automatically after it has been set to shut down. The same behavior also may happen after selecting the Hibernate and or Sleep options. The exact causes could vary from system to system but do not despair. Try the solutions outlined below since they will be able to return your computer to normal.

Run the Power Troubleshooter

Usually, this is a symptom associated with problems with the system's power consumption. That is why running the built-in Power Troubleshooter could help. 

On Windows 10 systems:

  1. Press the Windows key + I on your keyboard.
  2. In the Settings window, locate and open 'Update & Security.'
  3. Select 'Troubleshoot' from the options in the left pane.
  4. Click on 'Additional troubleshooters.'
  5. Find 'Power,' select it, and click on the 'Run the troubleshooter' button.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

On Windows 11 systems:

  1. Press the Windows button + I on your keyboard.
  2. In the Windows Settings panel, select the 'System' tab.
  3. Located on the right side, click on the 'Troubleshoot' menu.
  4. Click on the 'Other troubleshooters' option.
  5. Locate the Power troubleshooter and click on the 'Run' button.
  6. Follow the on-screen instruction.

Disable Fast Startup

Disabling Fast Startup could also resolve the issue.

  1. Type control panel in the search field on the taskbar and open the top result.
  2. Locate and open 'Power options.'
  3. Click on the 'Choose what the power buttons do' options located on the left side of the window.
  4. Click on the 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' option.
  5. Disable 'Turn on fast start-up.'
