Issue Troubleshooting iCloud Error Messages on Mac

Troubleshooting iCloud Error Messages on Mac

The iCloud service offers a multitude of different advantages to Apple users. They can rely on it to share files, upload, and store media files to the Cloud, and sync data between devices. It also is an essential component that facilitates communication between any Home devices. However, sometimes, users may wish to avoid getting accidentally distracted by any iCloud pop-up messages. It is also possible for the pop-ups to malfunction and refuse to disappear. To troubleshoot potential solutions, take a look at the suggestions listed below.

Make sure you are running the latest macOS version

  1. Go to the Apple menu.
  2. Select 'About this Mac.'
  3. Click on 'Software Update.'
  4. If you see that there is a new update available, click on 'Update Now.' Wait for the process to complete and then the Mac to boot.

Try entering your passwords again

If an iCloud pop-up keeps asking for your account password, try the following steps:

  1. Go to the Apple menu.
  2. Open 'System Preferences.'
  3. Choose the 'Apple ID' pane on newer macOS versions, otherwise select 'iCloud.'
  4. You should encounter an iCloud pop-up asking for either your iCloud password or the username and password of your Mac login.
  5. You may now see a new prompt asking for the other password.
  6. Keep entering the required information even if it may seem that the pop-ups have entered an endless loop. Usually, this is not the case and they should stop after several tries.

Try iCloud authorization

It may seem simple but logging out of iCloud and then back in again may fix the issue.

  1. Go to the Apple menu.
  2. Open 'System Preferences.'
  3. Click on 'Apple ID' if you are running the latest macOS versions. Otherwise, select 'iCloud.'
  4. Choose 'Overview.'
  5. Select 'Sign Out' from the available options and wait to be signed out of iCloud.
  6. If you are asked to keep a copy of your iCloud data on your Mac, you may do so, but it is not particularly necessary because we will be logging back in again immediately.
  7. Repeat steps 1 to 4 but this time choose 'Sign In.'
  8. Enter your iCloud username and password.

Enable Keychain Access

If the problem persists, then it may need a more serious solution. It is worth a shot to try enabling iCloud Keychain Access.

  1. Go to the Apple menu.
  2. Open 'System Preferences.'
  3. Select 'Apple ID.' (on older versions, select iCloud).
  4. Locate Keychain and check its box if it hasn't already been selected.
  5. Quit 'System Preferences' and restart the device.
