Issue Mac Won't Turn On

Mac Won't Turn On

Usually, if your Mac computer is unable to even start, it is a sign of a serious hardware problem that few users can resolve on their own. However, before taking the whole system to an expert, there are still a few tricks that you can try and see if they have a positive effect on the problem.

First, start making sure your Mac is plugged in as it may have simply run out of battery. If that is not the case, examine the charger itself. Pay attention to the cable and look for any breaks along its length. Check the AC power socket as well. To help isolate the problem look for the following signs:

  • If you hear the fans of the system working but no other noises, it might indicate a logic board failure.
  • See if the keyboard works. If the Caps Lock light turns on when pressing the key then the problem might be with the screen itself. Check if it hasn't been turned off by accident.

Try Safe mode

Starting your Mac in Safe Mode could help in some cases when the system will not boot. The Safe Mode limits the features of the macOS to the bare minimum so it can eliminate any software interference while allowing the user to access the recovery option.

To start the Safe Mode, press the Power button of the system while holding down the Shift key. Release Shift when the login dialogue screen appears. If the Mac system powers up, users will have at least some options to look for and troubleshoot additional fixes. A good starting point is to run some of the maintenance utilities available on the Mac.

Try using the Special Power Cycle

Another method that could help to start your Mac is to reboot the system using the 'Special Power Cycle' mode. The first step is to unplug the power cable. Then press and hold the Power button for at least 10 seconds. Without releasing the Power button, connect the power cable to the Mac. Now, wait another 10 seconds while holding the button. Finally, let go and try to start the Mac in the usual way.
