How to Uninstall WhatsApp

WhatsApp is one of the popular platforms for instant messaging and VoIP (Voice-over-IP) calls. WhatsApp is owned by the tech giant Facebook. Users who no longer wish to use WhatsApp may need to delete the desktop client of the app. The specific method for doing so depends on the computer system of the user.

On Mac, start by opening Finder and going to your Applications folder. Locate the WhatsApp file, right-click it, and choose 'Move to Trash.' Empty the Trash to uninstall the program. For those that wish to completely remove WhatsApp, this may not be the end of the process. Some service or support files might still be left on the system. To get rid of them, go to Finder once more, but this time open the 'Go' menu and select 'Go to Folder.' In the new window, type ~/Library and click on Go. Now, go to the following locations and remove all of the files associated with WhatsApp:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/WhatsApp/
  • ~/Library/Caches/WhatsApp/
  • ~/Library/Saved Application State/WhatsApp.savedState/
  • ~/Library/Preferences/WhatsApp.plist/
  • ~/Library/Preferences/WhatsApp.Helper.plist/
  • ~/Library/Logs/WhatsApp/

Empty the Trash one more to finish the removal process.

On Windows, there are multiple methods to uninstall the WhatsApp client. One of the easiest is through Control Panel. Start by typing control panel in the Search box on the Taskbar. Open the top result. Click on 'Uninstall a program' or go through the 'Programs' section and then 'Programs and Features.' In the list of installed programs, locate WhatsApp, right-click it and choose 'Uninstall.' Follow the instructions to complete the removal process.
