How To Uninstall Snagit

Snagit is a screen capture program developed by Techsmith. There are quite a lot of applications that provide similar functionality so some users may no longer use Snagit in particular. To remove the application completely from your computer, follow the recommended methods outlined below. 

Removing Snagit on Mac

Before you start, make sure that the Snagit application is shut down and not running currently. You also may wish to start Activity Monitor and use it to look for any processes associated with Snagit that might be running in the background. If there are any, select and close all of them. Afterward, open your Applications folder and drag Snagit to the Trash.

Unfortunately, although the application itself has been removed, certain residual or junk files related to it may still be present inside the system's Library folder. To get rid of the Snagit completely, users will have to delete these files manually.

1. Open Finder. Select the 'Go' menu, followed by 'Go to Folder.
2. Type '~/Library/' and press 'Go.'
3. Once inside the ~Library folder check the following locations and remove any files belonging to Snagit:

~/Library/Application Support/…

~/Library/Caches/…

~/Library/Containers/…

~/Library/Logs/…

~/Library/Cookies/…

~/Library/Saved Application State/…

~/Library/LaunchAgents/…

~Library/Preferences/

4. All that is left now is to empty the Trash and Snagit will be removed from your Mac completely.

Uninstalling Snagit on Windows computers

To remove Snagit from your Windows PC, first make sure that the program is not running currently. Then:

1. Type control panel in the Search field on the taskbar.
2. Open the top result. 
3. Click on 'Uninstall a program' located right below 'Programs.
4. From the list of installed programs select the version of Snagit you wish to remove.
5. Click 'Uninstall.'
6. You will be presented with a choice between 'Keep Files' and 'Delete Files.' Pick the one the best suits your preferences. Keep in mind that picking 'Delete Files' will permanently remove all Snagit Library files.
