How to Uninstall IMVU

IMVU is a popular website platform where users can interact using 3D avatars. The platform allows users to meet, communicate, create, and play games. Founded in 2004, IMVU has accumulated a userbase of over six million active players. Although the platform has a Mac client, all of the interactions still occur in the website environment. IMVU also could have undesirable functionalities (such as spyware behavior) that could prompt users to uninstall it.

The first step of the removal process is to make sure that IMVU is not running by quitting the application from the Dock. Then open Finder and go to your Applications folder. Navigate to IMVU's file and drag it to the Trash. Empty the Trash to uninstall the application. In some cases, however, residual or service files might still be left on the system. Users will have to remove these files manually.

Go back to Finder but this time select the 'Go' menu, and then click on 'Go to Folder.' In the search window, type ~/Library and click on 'Go.' Navigate to the following locations and delete all files and folders associated with IMVU:

~/Library/Application Support/IMVU

~/Library/Preferences/Flash Player/#Security/FlashPlayerTrust

~/Library/Saved Application State/

Windows users that wish to remove IMVU can do so through the Control Panel. Open the search box on the Taskbar and type control panel in it. Open the top result. Now, either click on 'Uninstall a program' directly or first go through 'Programs' and then 'Programs and Features.' Locate IMVU Avatar Chat Software among the list of installed programs, right-click it, and select 'Uninstall.' Follow the on-screen instructions until the uninstallation process has been completed.
