How to Uninstall Epic Games Launcher

While it's a somewhat controversy-ridden entrant into the digital game space, the Epic Games Launcher is the platform for the high-performing games like the battle royale en masse of Fortnite, along with other gaming media. Even with a constant barrage of free downloads of hit titles, not all Windows or macOS users want the Epic Games Launcher on their systems after trying it out. Thankfully, removing the launcher application doesn't remove the user's gaming library, and they can trim their hard drive bloat without hurting their collections.

As a preliminary, users should close any games or other software that's using the launcher before trying to remove it. Note that there are games available through the launcher that still will play without it, although users will have more work keeping them up-to-date individually.

Once you've closed out of any conflicting programs, further steps depend on which operating system you're using. Windows users may remove the Epic Games Launcher through the Start menu or one of two, separate programs lists. If the launcher has a Start menu shortcut, click Start and navigate to the shortcut icon on the menu's right side. Right-clicking it brings up an additional menu, from which you can choose to Uninstall.

However, Windows users in an older version of Windows may prefer or require the Control Panel uninstall method. Type 'Control Panel' into the taskbar's search and click the result. Click the Programs link and then the 'Uninstall a Program' link. The following list displays installed programs on the PC; scroll down to the Epic Games Launcher entry, right-click it and choose Uninstall.

A more modern way of achieving the same goal is by going through the Windows Settings menu. Search for Settings and click the result. From Settings, go to Apps, which should start on the Apps & Features area. This program list includes a hard drive filter that isn't available on the previous one. Other than left-clicking instead of right-clicking the Epic Games Launcher, the instructions remain as they were for the Control Panel version.

Of course, these past three paragraphs don't help macOS users. Fortunately, their uninstall routine is the simplest of them all. Begin by opening Finder. Scroll down until you see the Epic Games Launcher – the search tool near the top of the window can narrow down results if necessary. Either right-click the launcher's icon and choose to move it to the Trash or left-click and drag it to the Trash icon. Empty the Trash afterward if you're sure that you want the deletion to be permanent.

As an aside, uninstalling the Epic Games Launcher also removes the user's games. Users who want to play their games without the launcher should copy the appropriate folders and files to another location before removing the launcher.
