How To Uninstall Box Sync

As its name suggests, the Box Sync application is designed to allow users to synchronize data between their online Box storage and a Mac computer. Users also can manage the files and folders stored on Box Sync via their Mac's native file browsing interface. However, the developers of the application have announced their plans to replace it with Box Drive, a product that offers fastly expanded sed of functionalities and features. So, it may be time to uninstall Box Sync from your computer.

Automatic Removal

When installing the latest versions of Box Drive, users will have the option to get rid of the Box Sync application automatically. If they confirm this choice, the applications' contents will be deleted. Any files that have not been synched before the removal, will be archived in a dedicated folder named 'Box Sync.'

Manual Removal

If you have no intention of using either of the two products, follow the steps outlined below to remove the Box Sync application manually. 

  1. Quit Box Sync if it is currently running.
  2. Open your Applications folder.
  3. Locate Box Sync and drag it to the trash.

Now, let's get rid of the service files associated with the application 

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Select the 'Go' menu and choose 'Go to Folder.'
  3. Type ~/Library and click on 'Go.'
  4. Remove all files and folders related to Box Sync. Check these locations specifically:

~/Library/Application Support

~/Library/Caches

~/Library/Preferences

~/Library/Logs

  1. You also may wish to open the /Library folder and check there as well. Service files belonging to Box Sync may have been left in the following location:

/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools

  1. Delete the Box Sync archive folder, if you do not need it. By default, it should be located in the Home folder. 
  2. Finally, empty the Trash to finish the removal process.
