How To Troubleshoot Bluetooth on Mac

Bluetooth issues may not crop up as often as with WiFi for example, but they are no less frustrating. To troubleshoot potential solutions that could deal with the problems you are experiencing, read the suggestions outlined below.

Remove all USB devices

Apple has a dedicated support page for Mac users encountering problems with their mouse devices, unresponsive keyboards or trackpads. One of the methods to resolve potential Bluetooth issues is to disconnect all of the USB devices attached to the system currently. This includes any USB keyboard, mice and other external devices. Afterward, restart the Mac computer, wait for a couple of minutes, and then reconnect the devices.

Reset the SMC

Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) can help with hardware of all kinds, or software issues. Therefore, it is worth giving it a shot. However, the exact steps of the process are different, based on the Mac you are using currently.

  2. Press and hold Control+Option+Alt on your keyboard and the Power button simultaneously for at least 10 seconds.
  3. Release all the keys at the same time.
  4. Boot up the system.
