How to Take a Screenshot on Mac

Mac computers may not have a dedicated PrintScreen button on their keyboard but that doesn't mean that there are no keyboard shortcuts that achieve the same result. Users can take advantage of three hotkey commands to easily take screenshots of their screen in a manner that suits their needs.

First, pressing Shift+Command+3 on your keyboard simultaneously will result in a screenshot of the entire Desktop screen. If you want to take a shot of a certain area of the screen, press Shift+Command+4, instead. You can then adjust the dimensions of the screenshot with the mouse. Finally, you can take a screenshot of a specific window on the Desktop by pressing Shift+Command+4+Space.

If you wish to save the screenshot to the clipboard for easy access, use the same commands as outlined above while also pressing the Control button. All you have to do then is to enter the desired application and press Command+V on the keyboard to paste the saved screenshot image.

Newer macOS versions come with the built-in Screenshot utility application. It allows users to not only take screenshots but to record their workflow. Start by launching the application from the 'Utilities' folder under Applications, searching for it with Spotlight, or from the Launchpad. You will know that the application is working if a small toolbar appears on the screen. From it, users can choose one of three options:

● Capture Entire screen
● Capture Selected Window
● Capture Selected Portion

By going to the Options menu and selecting the Timer section, users can take delayed screenshots. The application offers two options to choose from - either 5 or 10 seconds. Select capture, wait for the countdown to finish, and then the screenshot will be taken.
