Both Mac and Windows users can modify this behavior of Spotify from inside the application's Settings. Open Spotify, click on the Menu icon next to your Account name in the top right corner of the window and select 'Settings.' Scroll all the way down and now click on the 'Show Advanced Settings' button. Scroll down again until you have reached the Startup and Window behavior section. Click on the drop-down menu next to 'Open Spotify automatically when you log into the computer' and set it to 'No.'

Users also can disable the automatic launch of Spotify through the built-in features of macOS and Windows, respectively. Mac users should start by going to the Apple menu and selecting 'System Preferences.' Locate the 'Users & Groups' section, and open it. Select the 'Login Items' tab. Displayed is a list of all applications that are set to start at system boot. All that is left is to select Spotify and then click on the 'Minus' (-) button to remove it.

On Windows 10, users can right-click the Start menu icon and then select 'Settings.' In the new window, open the 'applications' section. Choose 'Startup' from the options available in the left pane of the window. Find Spotify in the list and adjust the toggle next to it to 'Off.'
