How to Stop Chrome from Opening Automatically on a Mac

Google Chrome established itself as the most widely used Web browser in the world. Some Mac users may even prefer it over the default Safari browser that comes with their computers. Some, however, may need to use Chrome in specific situations and do not want for the browser to start itself automatically at every system boot. To stop this behavior, follow the steps outlined below.

Start by opening 'System Preferences' from the Apple menu. Locate and then open the 'Users & Groups' section. In the new window, switch to the 'Login items' tab. Here users will be presented with a list of all applications that are set to launch automatically whenever the system is started. To modify the list in accordance with your needs, click on the '+' or '-' buttons to either add or remove items. To stop Google Chrome from launching automatically, select it from the list, and click the '-' (minus) button.

Some users may wish to simply hide an application's window at boot without stopping it from being launched. To do so, select the application and either check or uncheck the box located to the left of the application's name.
