How To Set Up iMessage on Mac

Messages, or as it used to be known iMessage, is Apple's native IM (instant messaging) service. It allows users to send text and picture-based messages while iPhone users can rely on it for SMS and MMS as well. The service can be accessed through nearly all of the devices in the Apple ecosystem. To set up and start using it with your friends, colleagues, and family members, follow the instructions outlined below.

  1.  Log in to your Apple ID on the devices you wish to sync with the Mac.
  2. Go to your Mac and launch Messages from your Dock or by going through Finder and then Applications.
  3. In the appropriate fields, enter your Apple ID email and password.
  4. Choose if you wish to secure Messages with two-factor authentication.
  5. Go to Messages in the top toolbar.
  6. From the available options, pick 'Preferences.'
  7. Go to 'Accounts.'
  8. Enter the phone number and email address associated with your account. They should be the same as the ones used on your other Apple devices.

Now, we will have to check if text-forwarding is working as intended.

  1. Go to your mobile Apple device.
  2. Open 'Settings.'
  3. Open 'Messages.'
  4. Choose 'Test Message Forwarding.'
  5. You should see a list of devices synced via iCloud. Check if texts now get properly synced with your Mac.
