How to Reset iTunes Library on Mac

iTunes is a platform that gives users access to a plethora of different features. It can act as a media player and library, management utility for Apple devices, Internet radio broadcaster, and as a client for the iTunes Web store. Unfortunately, some Apple users might be forced to reset their iTunes library to fix a particularly stubborn software issue. The loss of all previously created playlists, libraries, song ratings, etc. will be lost in the process but none of the files downloaded on the computer will be affected.

The first step in the process of resetting your iTunes Library is to shut down the application completely. Then open Finder from the dock, select the 'Go' menu, and open 'Home.' Navigate to the 'Music' folder and locate the folder named 'iTunes.' Open it and find the two files named 'iTunes Library.itl' and 'iTunes Music Library.xml.' Select and delete both files. Open the iTunes application and proceed to create a new music library. If you notice that iCloud is trying to import previously backed up iTunes files that do not wish to have, simply click on the X mark.
