Staring at a password-protected Mac OS X login screen is never fun, especially when you forgot your password. However, it's not that hard to fix — just follow these steps and you'll be up and running in no time!

How to enable automatic login in Mac OS X Lion 10.7 and later

If you’re tired of having to enter your username and password every time you log in, you can enable automatic login in OS X Lion. To do so, open System Preferences, click the Users & Groups icon, select the Login Options check box, and then select the name of the user you want to automatically log in to. You should now see a login box appear when you log in to your account. Enter your username and then you’ll continue with your day. Here’s a list of things that the 'Automatic login' feature can do: When you log into a system after enabling 'Automatic login' to a username, you’ll be prompted to install Apple’s Easypass. It’s a security feature that’s turned on automatically for you by Apple, so you’ve probably never even heard of it.

To install it and set your username to be automatically logged in over any other username, follow the steps below. If you have an easy passcode, you can choose to set your login to automatically log in with the passcode, which protects the account less. To do this, go to your username, select Maintenance then select 'Password & Security.' In this window, you can set your username to automatically log in, choose a password, and then click 'Let Me In.' Essentially all you have to do is click the arrow once. If you ever need to change your username or password, you’ll still be able to log in with your username. That’s all there is to it!
