How To Disable Siri on Mac

Siri is the AI assistant that comes with iOS and macOS devices. It has a pretty impressive range of abilities that include voice recognition, language processing and machine learning. The combined product may have already changed the way some users operate their Apple devices completely. After all, you can tell Siri to search for a specific file or files, google information from the net, operate connected devices, send messages, start calls, and myriad other options that make everyday activities that much easier.

However, to operate as intended, Siri must communicate with Apple's servers and transmit data to them. Some privacy-conscious users may not want to share that info. Furthermore, Siri has access to contacts, songs in the user's collection, photo album titles, owned applications and more. For all intents and purposes, Siri should be regarded as a core component of the macOS system and, as such, it cannot be deleted. Users do have the option to disable Siri, though.

  1. Open the Apple menu.
  2. Open 'System Preferences.'
  3. Click on the Siri icon.
  4. Look for the 'Enable Siri' option located on the right pane and uncheck it.
  5. Do the same for the 'Show Siri in menu bar' option.

It should be noted that although Siri has been disabled and hidden, only the recent voice input data will be deleted. As per Apple's, Privacy Policy, older voice requests will still be kept on the company's servers but will be disassociated from the user.
