How to Clear the App Store Cache on Mac

Sometimes Apple users may have trouble opening the App Store because it may fail to load correctly, or not shows the most up-to-date information. A common solution to all these problems is to simply clear the App Store Cache that has been saved on the Mac device. After all, the App Store works in a way that is similar to a Web page. As such, to speed up any subsequent visits to certain items, it saves relevant information to the device in the form of cache files to avoid having to download it every single time from scratch. Unfortunately, if these files get corrupted or experience other malfunctions, it could have a detrimental effect on the way the App Store is displayed on the Mac.

Resetting Your App Store Cache

Cleaning the cache files related to the App Store can be achieved in just a few steps:

  1. Select 'Applications' and go to 'Utilities.'
  2. Launch 'Terminal.'
  3. Type the following command in the Terminal and execute it:

open $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.appstore/

  1. Select the contents of the com.apple.appstore folder and move all of them to the Trash.
  2. Now, locate the Finder icon in the Dock and click on it.
  3. Select the 'Go' menu followed by 'Go to Folder.'
  4. Paste the following patch in the text box and click the 'Go' button:

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/

  1. Open the fsCachedData folder and delete its contents as well by dragging them to the Trash.
