Issue Google Meet Camera not Working

Google Meet Camera not Working

Google Meet is a video conferencing tool available to anyone who has a Gmail or a Google Workplace account. If you are trying to join a Google Meet call, but your camera appears to be having some issues, then look through the potential fixes outlined below and see if one of them isn't able to help you.

The first step is to rule out a hardware malfunction. Start up any other application that supports video calls and check if the camera is working properly there. If you are still having problems, then make sure that the camera is plugged in properly and then try using a different one, if possible.

Fixing a Google Meet Camera not Working on Mac

Mac users should start by making sure that Google Meet has permission to use the camera.

  1. Select the Apple menu and choose 'System Preferences.'
  2. Open 'Security & Privacy.'
  3. Open 'Privacy.'
  4. Open 'Camera.'
  5. Locate the browser you use for Google Meet and make sure that the corresponding box next to it is checked.

Configure the browser settings

If the camera is not working in Chrome, make sure that the browser is configured appropriately.

  1. Open Chrome and paste chrome://settings/content/camera into the URL bar.
  2. Locate the 'Ask before accessing' setting and disable it.
  3. Find 'Allow', and delete https://meet.google.com:443 if it is present under it.
  4. Restart Chrome, and allow the camera if prompted.

Fixing a Google Meet Camera not Working on Windows

Windows users have to generally follow the same steps. Let's start by giving camera permission to Google Chrome:

  1. Tap/click the three dots menu in Chrome's window.
  2. Select 'Settings.'
  3. Go to 'Privacy and security.'
  4. Select 'Site Settings.'
  5. Locate meet.google.com and click on it.
  6. Select 'Permissions.'
  7. Set the Camera and Microphone to 'Allow' from the corresponding drop-down menu.

If that doesn't work, try changing the default camera. Users who are trying to turn their phones into a webcam via another application must choose the right camera option in Google Meet to avoid any issues. Just go to Google Meet and open application settings. After that, simply select the video menu and choose the camera that you are planning to use.
