Issue Airplay Not Working

Airplay Not Working

Using AirPlay is a convenient way to stream audio, video, device screens, photos, and other content seamlessly between different devices in the Apple ecosystem. Airplay 2-enabled smart TVs or speakers also should be compatible and can be used. However, sometimes various issues can be preventing AirPlay from working properly. To avoid any unnecessary frustrations, try the solutions outlined below and see if any one of them is able to fix the problem.

Check the Wi-Fi Connectivity

While it may sound trivial, many users forget to adjust both devices to use the same Wi-Fi network. In any other case, AirPlay will not be able to work. Also, make sure that there is sufficient signal strength and that the connection is stable enough.

Check for Software Updates

Outdated software versions could be the reason causing the AirPlay issues. To make sure that you have the latest available updates, do the following:

On iOS devices - Open 'Settings,' then 'General,' and finally 'Update Software.'

On macOS devices - Click the Apple icon on the top toolbar, then open 'System Preferences,' and finally 'Update.'

Any other Apple device should clearly indicate if an update has been released by itself.

Check the Firewall Settings

If one of the devices you are trying to use AirPlay on is running macOS or OS X, especially a Macbook, then its security measures may be causing the interference. To check if the Firewall is adjusted accordingly to your needs, do the following:

  1. Open 'System Preferences.'
  2. Go to 'Security & Privacy.'
  3. Locate 'Firewall.'
  4. Select 'Firewall Options.'
  5. Locate the 'Block all incoming connections' options. If its box is ticked, then uncheck it.
  6. Locate the 'Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections' and check its box.

Try to run AirPlay again and hopefully this time there will be no issues.
