EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are assessment reports for different malware threats which have been collected and analyzed by our research team. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards evaluate and rank threats using several metrics including real-world and potential risk factors, trends, frequency, prevalence, and persistence. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are updated regularly based on our research data and metrics and are useful for a wide range of computer users, from end users seeking solutions to remove malware from their systems to security experts analyzing threats.
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards display a variety of useful information, including:
Ranking: The ranking of a particular threat in EnigmaSoft’s Threat Database.
Severity Level: The determined severity level of an object, represented numerically, based on our risk modeling process and research, as explained in our Threat Assessment Criteria.
Infected Computers: The number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular threat detected on infected computers as reported by SpyHunter.

Malware analysts have noted a sharp increase of problems involving Potentially Unwanted Programs in recent dates. Compared to viruses, Trojans, worms and other threats, PUPs are quite tame. However, PUPs may have a wide variety of effects and may display problems similar to threats. The presence of a PUP on a computer may make it difficult to use and may compromise computer users' data. PC security analysts have also noted that PUPs may make a Web browser behave erratically. TakeItCheap is just one of the many PUPs that are advertised as Web browser extensions designed to help computer users find special online deals or enhance computer users' shopping experience. The truth is that TakeItCheap does not deliver any kind of useful service or experience. Rather, TakeItCheap causes a wide variety of problems on the affected machine. Additionally, TakeItCheap may be quite difficult to remove because TakeItCheap may bypass a Web browser's extension or plug-in manager. In these cases, TakeItCheap will need to be removed by uninstalling TakeItCheap using the Windows Control Panel, and then manually restoring any harmful changes TakeItCheap has made to the affected computer's settings.
TakeItCheap and Similar Potentially Unwanted Programs
There are many kinds of PUPs, most often referred to as spyware, adware, bloatware or a variety of other names. The term PUP is usually reserved for software that is harmful, but not outright threatening and destructive such as rootkits, Trojans and viruses. Rather, PUPs may be installed as Web browser add-ons or applications that try to take advantage of the computer user through deception and by causing certain behaviors on the affected computer. Although PUPs like TakeItCheap may be distributed using the same methods that are used to deliver most threats (spam email messages, attack websites, corrupted advertisements, etc.), the most common method for delivering PUPs is by bundling them with other software, including famous legitimate software that is hosted by a third party. Computer users must be especially careful if downloading software from one of a variety of websites specialized in providing these kinds of services.
Common Problems Associated with TakeItCheap and Other PUPs
There is an extensive variety of complications that may be linked to TakeItCheap and similar PUPs. Common problems that these types of Web browser add-ons may cause on affected computers are:
- TakeItCheap has been known to change the affected computer's and Web browser settings. Typically, TakeItCheap may change the affected Web browser's default search engine, homepage and other default websites. TakeItCheap may also lower the affected Web browser's security settings, making it more vulnerable to threats or other PUPs.
- TakeItCheap may display a large number of advertisements on affected Web browsers. PC security analysts have noted that TakeItCheap may cause the affected Web browser to display pop-up windows and insert advertisements into websites viewed by the affected computer user.
- TakeItCheap may cause performance issues on affected computers. PC security researchers have observed that TakeItCheap may cause the affected computer to freeze, slow down or crash with frequency. TakeItCheap may also interfere with other software on the affected computer, preventing other Web browser extensions from operating properly or preventing computer users from accessing their security software.
PC security researchers recommend that computer users remove TakeItCheap immediately. To do this, a reliable security application should be used to scan the affected computer completely. Once TakeItCheap has been uninstalled, and the entire computer scanned repeatedly, malware researchers strongly advise manually reverting any unwanted changes made to the affected Web browser's settings. It may be needed to reinstitute your default search engine and homepage manually.
