Surf Speed Monitor is a PC tool with a questionable reputation. According to its official website, Surf Speed Monitor is a handy little application that is supposed to provide users with information regarding their Internet speed and the quality of their connection. Surf Speed Monitor is, in fact, a legitimate application, and it can do exactly what it is supposed to do. However, users who opt to take a closer look at Surf Speed Monitor's privacy policy may reveal several disturbing facts:
- Surf Speed Monitor is an ad-supported application, and as such, it may inject some advertisements in the user's preferred web browser.
- Surf Speed Monitor may gather anonymous information regarding the user's online activities that may be used to improve the quality of the advertisements displayed, or may also be used for other marketing purposes.
While these things aren't dangerous, they certainly have their negative sides. The presence of advertisements in your web browser can be very annoying, especially if the ads aren't relevant to the user's interests, and our experience shows that this is often the case with most pieces of ad-supported programs. Furthermore, the second point gives us reasons to believe that Surf Speed Monitor may exhibit behavior that is intrusive to the user's privacy. Our final verdict is that while Surf Speed Monitor may proof to be useful, in our opinion it is an ad-supported potentially unwanted program that you probably don't want to have to deal with. Most users would probably be better of without it, so we recommend that you remove Surf Speed Monitor by using a legitimate anti-malware solution.
