Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese Virus

By ZulaZuza in Malware

The Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus is one of many versions of the Ukash Winlocker, also known as the Bundespolizei Fake Alert and the Metropolitan Police Virus. Basically, this family of malware specializes in displaying a fake alert from the various police forces for European countries. The Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus locks down the victim's computer, refusing to return control of the infected machine until the victim pays a one hundred Euro fine through Ukash or PaySafeCard (which are money transfer services similar to PayPal or Western Union). Versions of this scam have been found in several languages. Also, the Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus uses the logos and shields of some of the most important law enforcement agencies in the targeted country. The Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus is simply the fake alert that is targeted towards computer users in Portugal.

The Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese Virus Scam

The Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus displays a message that is entirely in Portuguese, which claims that it has been sent by the Polícia de Segurança Pública (the Portuguese police force) because the victim's computer was associated with illegal activities like child pornography and bestiality. Of course, this is entirely silly considering that things like child pornography are extremely heinous and grave crimes, which are unlikely to be punished with something as small as a one hundred Euro fine! The main problem with the Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus is that Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus locks the victim's computer, preventing access to the infected computer's desktop or Task Manager. The Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus will also claim that if the computer user doesn't pay it in an appointed time frame, that the contents of the victim's hard drive will be sent to law enforcement and then deleted in their entirety.

The Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus is Simple to Fix

The Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus is not particularly difficult to fix, since Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus relies heavily on social engineering and is not really a sophisticated malware infection. In fact, to bypass its annoying message and regain access to your desktop it is simply a matter of starting up Windows in Safe Mode (to do this, simply press the F8 key while Windows starts up on most machines). Once this is done, it is only a matter of removing the Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus with a reliable anti-malware tool or, if you have the knowledge to do so, entering the Windows Registry Editor and removing the offending entries that are allowing the Polícia de Segurança Pública Portuguese virus to launch automatically upon start-up.
