OSDSoft CPU Miner

By GoldSparrow in Trojans

OSDSoft is an XMRig-based crypto mining Trojan, which takes advantage of your PC’s processing power to mine for digital coins secretly. Usually paired with other software as a bundle, OSDSoft often lands on targeted machines automatically, then starts crypto mining right away. This results in a massive slowdown in pretty much any activity you perform while using your computer.

While the OSDSoft CPU Miner is designed to run in the background surreptitiously to prevent targeted PC users from suspecting anything, the Trojan cannot conceal the fact that it drains nearly all of your computer’s CPU power. Some of the infections reported so far have shown a whopping 90% decrease in performance. Moreover, crypto miners rely on GPU as much as they rely on CPU, which makes the impact all the more adverse especially for gaming enthusiasts. The latter may experience a freezing display and never-ending choppy frame rates.

The poor system performance caused by the OSDSoft Miner can be seen in the form of a randomly named executable running in your system’s Task Manager. Since that executable loads during system startup, OSDSoft could potentially continue to mine forever unless you take measures to eliminate it with a reputable AV solution.
