Threat Database Mac Malware Oc-protection.com

Oc-protection.com

Oc-protection.com is a dubious website that could attempt to trick Apple users into downloading Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) onto their devices. In most cases, visitors do not land on sites such as Oc-protection.com willingly; they are taken there either by clicking on an intrusive advertisement or as a result of an adware application being present on their devices.

When unsuspecting users land on Oc-protection.com, they could be presented with one of two possible scenarios. The first one is a blatant trick attempt. The website will display a fake warning message claiming that the user's device has been infected with a non-specified Trojan virus. Apparently, the fake malware has already been able to damage 17% of device's memory, whatever that even means. To further scare the user into tapping the button initiating the download of the promoted PUP, Oc-protection.com states that if no action is taken into account, photos and payment data present on the device will be made available to third parties by the virus. It is paramount to remember that no website can perform a scan of your device or computer, and, as a result, all these claims are nothing more than a scheme.

The other possible scenario presented by Oc-protection.com, however, is legitimate. The site simply displays an offer to the user for additional online privacy and protection through Norton Secure VPN & Proxy VPN. The goal is to receive a commission fee if the users install the legitimate application through the provided link.
