The Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware Trojan is one of the latest variants in the vast Reveton family of Police Ransomware. This dangerous Trojan infection carries out a typical version of this scam, accusing the victim of illegal activities in order to extort a fine from the victim. Unfortunately, ESG security researchers have reported that the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware uses a disturbing new tactic in its attack, designed to scare inexperienced computer users into paying 'fines' through money transfer services such as Ukash. The Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware infection has caught the attention of malware analysts because the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware uses disturbing images in its attack, images that may graphically depict child abuse.

The Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware Infection is Associated with the Use of Disturbing Images

Like other Police Ransomware Trojans, the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware infection lists a large number of bogus charges when the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware accuses its victim of illegal activity. As with other variants in the Reveton family of Police Ransomware, the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware accuses its victims of viewing child pornography or illegal images of child abuse. However, criminals have taken this disturbing tactic one step further by including several pornographic images in the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware message and then claiming under each image that the person depicted in the image is a minor and that the computer user browsed those images when viewing pornographic material. This is a lie, part of the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware's scam. ESG security researchers are unsure of whether the images contained in the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware infection actually depict underage pornographic content or if they have simply been labeled this way.

The Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware targets computer users located in Germany. During the infection process, the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware detects the victim's geographical location through its IP address, network settings and operating system language. Then the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware downloads content that allows the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware adapt itself to the victim's country. While variants of the Reveton Trojan exist for many countries around the world, the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware variant targets computer systems with a German IP address. This malware threat's message is written in German, and the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware uses the logo of the German police force. Once installed, the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware blocks access to the infected computer, essentially taking it hostage. The Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware then demands payment of a ransom through a money transfer service. It is important to remember that paying the Bundeskriminalamt Ransomware's 'fine' will do nothing to remove this harmful invader from your computer.Screenshot
