Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are assessment reports for different malware threats which have been collected and analyzed by our research team. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards evaluate and rank threats using several metrics including real-world and potential risk factors, trends, frequency, prevalence, and persistence. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are updated regularly based on our research data and metrics and are useful for a wide range of computer users, from end users seeking solutions to remove malware from their systems to security experts analyzing threats.
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards display a variety of useful information, including:
Ranking: The ranking of a particular threat in EnigmaSoft’s Threat Database.
Severity Level: The determined severity level of an object, represented numerically, based on our risk modeling process and research, as explained in our Threat Assessment Criteria.
Infected Computers: The number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular threat detected on infected computers as reported by SpyHunter.

Numerous complaints involving advertisements associated with Bcool have been issued by computer users. Bcool may be so irritating that many computer users may incorrectly refer to Bcool as a threat. Bcool is considered a PUP or Potentially Unwanted Program. This term may be used to refer to programs that are not threatening, but that have numerous symptoms that may be irritating or potentially threatening. In the case of Bcool, the main problem associated with this PUP is the appearance of numerous irritating advertisements that may become intrusive and severely disrupt computer users' activities on the affected PC.

Bcool – A not so Cool Application to Have on Your Computer
Bcool is a free application that has become widespread in recent times. Bcool is especially widespread in the United States, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The developers of Bcool advertize this application as an easy way to access websites, movies, games, news and other content online, conveniently from a Web browser toolbar or add-on. However, Bcool may have a negative effect on the Web browser's performance. Bcool also may allow other, potentially unwanted software to enter an affected computer and expose computer users to advertisements and content with potentially threatening components. If Bcool is running on your computer (for example, if the bcool.exe file process appears in the Task Manager), if you are receiving advertisements with the message 'advertisements by Bcool' or 'delivered by Bcool', or if you are experiencing Web browser redirects to websites linked to Bcool, a full scan should be performed on the affected computer. Since Bcool isn't threatening, many anti-malware programs may not recognize Bcool as a threat. To deal with low-level threats like Bcool, PC security researchers recommend the use of a security program capable of dealing with spyware, adware and other PUPs.
Why Bcool Should be Removed from Your Machine
Bcool may be installed as a Web browser add-on, although Bcool may add itself to the Windows Registry and run in the background even when the computer user is not using the affected PC's Web browser. Once Bcool has been installed, Bcool takes over the Web browsers installed on the affected PC. Bcool may affect most of the widely used Web browsers, including Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Bcool installs tracking cookies in order to gain access to the affected computer user's Web browser history, search history, online habits, and information about the affected computer's location and IP address. This information may then be used to deliver advertisements to the affected PC or sold to a third party.
How Bcool may Enter a Computer
Most PUPs may be bundled with other software. Low-quality freeware may be bundled with PUPs, also referred to as bloatware. Many types of programs may be bundled with PUPs such as Bcool, including media players and PDF editors and creators. Bcool and other PUPs may be distributed through known online software distribution platforms. To prevent these bundled programs from being installed, the computer user should read the User Agreement carefully and do not skip any step of the installation process. In many cases, these programs use convoluted language or other tactics to trick inexperienced computer users into accepting the installation of applications, add-ons, extensions and other components on the affected computer. PC security researchers strongly advise computer users to use custom or advanced installation options whenever possible and opt out of the installation of any unwanted, third-party software bundled with the main download. A reliable anti-malware program capable of detecting PUPs can also detect the installation of Bcool before it happens.
