How to Manually Allow a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) in SpyHunter 5

In order to promote user security and ease of use, SpyHunter 5 automates the blocking and removal process as much as possible.

There may be some cases, for example related to potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), where SpyHunter 5 is blocking and/or detecting a program that you wish to run.

If you would like to unblock a potentially unwanted program (PUP) that has been blocked by SpyHunter 5's System Guards, please follow the instructions below.

Note: To promote user security, SpyHunter 5 DOES NOT allow users to unblock objects in the "Malware" category. If you believe that an object has been miscategorized, please click here to contact our support department.

If you wish to prevent a potentially unwanted program (PUP) from being detected and blocked by SpyHunter 5, you can simply modify the System Guard rules associated with it that are blocking it from execution. If the PUP is detected in the SpyHunter 5 scan, you will also need to add Exclusions for its individual objects (or its entire detection group). If objects associated with the PUP have already been removed by SpyHunter 5, you will need to restore these objects to your system from SpyHunter 5's "Quarantine" section before you can launch it.

STEP 1: Modifying SpyHunter 5 System Guard Rules

SpyHunter 5 is designed to automatically prevent the launch of any objects identified in its database as potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). Click here more information on PUPs. You can view the objects that have been blocked by opening the SpyHunter 5 main window and clicking the "System Guard" menu item. Objects are grouped into three categories: "Malware," "PUPs," and "User Added."

To view a list of PUPs that have been processed by SpyHunter 5's System Guards, click on the "PUPs" tab to select it. Each object will display a "Status" of "Blocked" or "Allowed." You can unblock a PUP by locating the object in this list, clicking its "Blocked" status, and changing its value to "Allowed."

STEP 2: Restoring Objects from Quarantine

Note: Please use the "Restore" feature with extreme caution. Restoring quarantined malware and other objects may have a negative impact on your computer's performance and security! As noted elsewhere, our technical support team is available for paying subscribers for additional guidance before using this feature.

If the object that you wish to unblock was previously removed by SpyHunter 5 (or its System Guard), you will need to restore it to your system if you wish to launch it.

To restore an object from "Quarantine," open the SpyHunter 5 main window and click the "Malware/PC Scan" menu item. In the window that appears, click the "Quarantine" tab. This will display a list of previously removed objects that are securely stored in SpyHunter 5's "Quarantine" section. Locate and check the checkbox next to the object(s) that you wish to restore. Next, click the "Restore" button to restore the object(s) to your system.

STEP 3: Excluding Objects from SpyHunter 5 Scans

After completing the first two steps, you should be able to launch the previously blocked object. You may also wish to perform this step to prevent SpyHunter 5 from detecting the object in future scans.

First, open the SpyHunter 5 main window and click the "Malware/PC Scan" menu item. In the window that appears, on the "Malware/PC Scan" tab, click the "Start Scan" button to launch a scan. When the scan completes, locate the object(s) that you wish to exclude in the scan results. To exclude a single object, right-click the object and select "Exclude this detected object" from the menu that appears. You can also exclude an entire group of objects by right-clicking the detection group (or an individual object within the detection group) and selecting "Exclude this detection group."

If you are experiencing issues running a program that IS NOT listed under the "Malware" or "PUPs" categories, a "User Added" rule may be interfering with its operation. Please click here to learn about managing User-Added Guard Rules.
