Thecoolposts.com is little more than a deceptive website created with a single purpose - to conduct a popular browser-based tactic. Visitors who land on it, almost always involuntarily through forced redirects, will be presented with various fake alert or error messages that will try to convince them to click on an 'Allow' button. Doing so will grant Thecoolposts.com all of the browser permissions it requires to start delivering unsolicited advertisements on the affected device generating monetary gains for its creators in the process.
The exact scenario run by the website could vary. Still, one observed variant is for Thecoolposts.com to display a buffering bar creating the impression that a video is being prevented from being played. Accompanying it will be the following text:
'Click the «Allow» button to subscribe to the push notifications and continue watching.'
Users who do not pay enough attention or let their curiosity get the better of them will fall right for Thecoolposts.com's trap. They will soon begin to notice an abnormal amount of advertisements that could even start to interfere with the normal browsing experience on the affected device. Clicking on the advertisements delivered by the misleading website could expose users to additional security risks. They could be redirected to untrustworthy or outright compromised third-party websites. There they can be subjected to landing pages for tech support tactics, PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), or even malware threats masquerading as software updates.
