Searchsafer.com is one of the many low-quality search engines that can be found online. These kinds of search engines are often associated with intrusive browser toolbars or add-ons that make unauthorized changes to the computer user’s browser settings. These kinds of applications will often be associated with a malicious component known as a browser hijacker. As their name implies, browser hijackers take over the infected computer’s web browser. A browser hijacker can force the affected web browser to visit specific pages; change the homepage, default search engine, and other web browser settings; and display annoying pop-up windows containing advertisements or websites with unsafe content. Searchsafer.com is associated with the Search Safer browser add-on. If you have installed Search Safer on your computer or have had contact with the Searchsafer.com website, you should scan your computer with a reliable anti-malware program.

Searchsafer.com and its Associated Browser Toolbar

The Searchsafer.com website is a basic search engine website that displays sponsored search results. The main problem with is the fact that its associated toolbar, Search Safer, uses browser redirect techniques to force computer users to visit Searchsafer.com repeatedly. The main way these redirects occur is by replacing the victims’ online searches. After carrying out a normal search on a reliable search engine, Searchsafer.com’s toolbar will direct the victim to the Searchsafer.com website instead of to the search result’s website. The Search Safer toolbar will replace your default search engine with its own search toolbar. While toolbars designed to help you carry out online searches are not uncommon, the problem with Search Safer is that Searchsafer.com cannot be removed in a straightforward manner. The Search Safer toolbar will not appear in Windows’ Add/Remove Panel from the Control Panel. Searchsafer.com also does not come with any way to uninstall the toolbar, and removing it with your web browser’s add-on manager is also impossible.

To remove Searchsafer.com’s toolbar, you will need to use a reliable anti-malware program. Although it is possible to remove Searchsafer.com’s toolbar manually, ESG security researchers do not recommend this course of action. Removing Searchsafer.com manually requires editing the Windows Registry and correctly identifying this program’s files. Incorrect removal can result in Searchsafer.com reinstalling itself or in damage to your operating system.
