Users seeing the Pushnott.com page likely didn't want to do so. The page is visited mostly due to previously visiting websites utilizing rogue advertising networks or due to having an intrusive PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) lurking inside the user's computer or device. This dubious behavior becomes less surprising when you factor in that Pushnott.com is solely dedicated to the proliferation of a browser-based tactic.
Under various false pretenses, the site will try to lure visitors into clicking the displayed 'Allow' button and unknowingly subscribing to its push notification services. The exact scenario that users may encounter could vary based on numerous factors, such as their IP address, geolocation, browser type and more. Still, one of the most popular fake claims abused by these pages is to claim that they are performing a CAPTCHA check. Users will be greeted with an image of a confused robot, accompanied by a message similar to:
'Click 'Allow' if you are not a robot'
'Press 'Allow' to verify that you are not a robot'
Those that follow the instructions will soon notice an increase in the advertisements encountered during browsing. Pushnott.com may even start showing unwanted notifications. The advertisements may exploit similar social engineering tactics and clickbait messages to promote intrusive adware, browser hijackers or other PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs). They also could cause forced redirects to other untrustworthy pages.
